Lois Hirshberg aus Massachusetts sieht die Verbindung zwischen dem Jüdischen Lichterfest Channukah und dem Weihnachtsfest. Sie wird am 15. Dezember die erste Kerze des Channukahfestes für die Kinder der Thembimfundo Schule anzünden. Sie schreibt dazu:

„Darkness is not only the absence of light from the sun, but also the absence of knowledge, compassion, and peace in our lives. Channukah and Christmas are both holidays based on lights – it is unforunate that too many people forget the important message of these holidays. The first night of Channukah is this Friday (15. Dezember). I will light the first candle in the menorah for the children of Thembimfundo.“
